Seven Canyons Golf

Seven Canyons | A Bucket List Golf Experience

the year-long journey

There are only two types of people that can have the once-in-a-lifetime golf experience that is Seven Canyons, the private destination club in Sedona – members, who appreciate the rarest of the rare, and guests at the luxury Enchantment Resort. The exclusivity of this incredible club, along with the unrivaled location and impeccably designed course, make Seven Canyons a must-do experience on your bucket list.

Sedona is a natural treasure – an astonishing place that introduces rare life experiences enriched with pristine air, a welcome peacefulness and the ever-changing visual delights of majestic red rock canyons and buttes. In the midst of this stunning scenery, completely surrounded by 100,000 acres of National Forest, is Seven Canyons, the private golf club that, by nature, is unique from all the world’s. Seven Canyons has been ranked one of the Top 10 new private courses in America by Golf Digest.  Add the extraordinary amenities of Enchantment Resort and Mii amo Spa and you have an unrivaled destination experience.

If the location isn’t reason enough to add Seven Canyons to your bucket list, perhaps Golf legend, Tom Weiskopf, will entice you. Seven Canyons was the ideal location for Tom to showcase his keen sense of style and strategic play. He has created a golf experience reminiscent of great turn-of-the-century courses that were designed for pleasure, not to accommodate housing. The routing takes advantage of the natural, rolling terrain giving the course a “links” style feel and playability. Tom Weiskopf, a winner of the British Open Championship, fashioned many of the holes with elements of those classic designs. Encompassed by spectacular landscape, the wonderfully intimate Par 70 course is enjoyable for everyone – from those with average skills, to purists with low handicaps. The course isn’t long by today’s standards, but provides plenty of challenges. It features mature forest and vegetation framing each hole, astute bunkering, natural dry washes, and small fast greens. Calling it one of his best designs ever, Tom Weiskopf has created a must-play masterpiece in a remarkable setting, worthy of a spot on your golf bucket list.

Celebrating 100 Years

Enchantment Resort and Mii amo spa Overview Sedona, Arizona

At Enchantment, the dramatic red rocks of Sedona’s Boynton Canyon  set the tone for an experience beyond comparison. As a guest of Enchantment, you have access to the best life has to offer – a connection to nature, exhilarating adventures, deep relaxation and that feeling of awe and wonder, again and again. Also known by the Apache name Che-Ah-Chi, Boynton Canyon has an intriguing history that includes dramatic earth changes, prehistoric ruins, creation stories, Native inhabitants and healing waters. The canyon, which was formed by the prehistoric waters that covered the Southwest leaving behind incredible red rock formations, is a place of immense healing, natural beauty and energy. This month we have even more reason to commemorate the beauty and wonder of our landscape, as the National Park Service celebrates its Centennial Birthday on August 25, 2016!

The National Parks Service, characterized this remarkable milestone perfectly – “The Centennial will acknowledge the achievements of the past 100 years, but this celebration is really about the future. It’s about kicking off a second century of stewardship for America’s National Parks and for communities across the nation.” Like the National Parks, Enchantment prides itself on preserving what matters most; heritage and the environment. We see ourselves as stewards of Boynton Canyon and delight in the idea of introducing future generations to our beautiful location. We believe it is important to celebrate the earth and its resources, while maintaining a deep and abiding respect for the land surrounding the resort. It is this everlasting respect that has led Enchantment Resort to establish the Boynton Canyon Preservation Fund, in cooperation with the National Forest Service. To further educate our guests about our incredible landscape, trail guides are available for nature tours to provide information about the flora, fauna and Native American archaeological sites, as they lead them along canyon trails. Through Camp Coyote, children also have the opportunity to learn about nature in this beautiful, ecologically diverse land.

Come experience the wonder of Boynton Canyon for yourself, and join us at Enchantment Resort to Celebrate the Centennial of our National Parks with our Grand Canyon by Air Package.

Insider Sips

Interested in knowing what wines are trending in 2016? Enchantment Resort‘s certified Sommelier, Michael Robb recently shared with us some of his current favorites.

Capensis, Chardonnay from South Africa

Since Chardonnay is said to be a winemaker’s grape, it often suffers from effusive wine-making techniques. Chardonnay’s capacity to be transformed by barrel fermentation, malolactic fermentation and various aging regimens has led to many bottles tasting manipulated, flabby, over-oaked and overdone. And then you come across a Chardonnay that helps you remember why it is one of the noble wine grapes. Capensis is a blend of Chardonnay from 3 vineyards in the Western Cape of South Africa. With juicy peach, pear, lime and mineral flavors that are smooth and deep, this wine has a polished texture and long finish. Capensis is a Chardonnay that is special because of the way it all comes together. Unfortunately, with a production of about 1,000 bottles, it is highly-coveted and not easily found.

Tenshen, White Blend from Santa Barbara County
The Red Blends have grown tremendously in the last few years but few are familiar with the White Blend category. The Tenshen brand was launched with a red blend by Alex Guarachi and Joey Tensley in 2014. Released in 2015, The Tenshen White is a blend of Rhone varietals – Viognier, Rousanne, Grenache Blanc and Chardonnay. Tenshen White is a great, relatively inexpensive wine. Very aromatic, lush and complex with apricot and peach flavors. Tenshen White is fun to use as a Sommelier because it’s an excellent food wine with mouthwatering texture and balanced acidity.

Law Estate Wines “Beyond Category”

There has been tremendous growth and development recently in the Paso Robles area with new appellations, wineries and wines. The aptly named “Beyond Category” wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah. It follows no wine model, but is created from the grapes that the Paso Robles region grows best. This wine makes up for its lack of varietal focus with dense currant, black licorice and herb flavors and ends with a tannic minerality.

Slacker Linne Calodo, Red Blend from Paso Robles

The Paso Robles region has long been known for Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, but has recently embraced the Red Blend category. “The Professional” red blend, a GSM (Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre) Rhone-style blend, comes from a very serious winemaker with an irreverent attitude. This flavorful “pizza wine” is not designed to be the center of attention, but will win you over with its rich fruit and balanced acidity.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

DerrickNative American Heritage Month is celebrated throughout November, aiming to provide a platform for Native peoples to share their culture, traditions, music, crafts, dance and history. This month-long celebration allows various Native cultures to build bridges of understanding and friendship in their local communities.

Enchantment’s location in Boynton Canyon has long been considered a special place of birth and healing, or the “Garden of Eden,” to various tribes from the region. Paying tribute to the area’s rich heritage of Native American culture, when Enchantment was built, the resort created a thoughtful and diverse program of guest experiences in concert with local tribal communities. Some of the guest experiences include dance and musical performances, storytelling, guided medicine walks and storytelling, to name a few. Performers and participants are from area tribes whose elders have approved their participation as a way to educate and inform resort guests and staff about their history and culture.

This land, its energy and history as well as the wisdom and traditions of the people who live here, all led to the establishment of the Native American programs at Enchantment. What a blessing and a gift it is to all.

Seeing Stars

Holidays at EnchantmentOn the heels of the beautiful “super blood moon” eclipse on September 27th, take advantage of the brilliant stargazing opportunities in Sedona. Sedona is an international dark sky community – one of only eight such places in the world recognized by the International Dark Sky Association for its excellent stewardship of the night sky.

Enchantment’s location ensures guests will see bright stars, the Milky Way, phases of the moon and much more. The resort’s fully-shielded light fixtures are directed downward toward the walking paths, preserving the night sky for maximum viewing.

Our guided stargazing session is led by a local expert every Tuesday and Saturday, allowing you to peer through a powerful telescope and learn more about the current activity of the planets, moons and stars.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, sign up and experience one of our Full Moon Red Rocks Hikes, a two-hour experience that begins just before sunset to witness the lengthening shadows of the falling sun, followed by the rising moon and the illumination of the red rocks.
