With spring on the horizon, have you already forgotten about your New Year’s resolution?
Do not fear, because you aren’t alone! If you are like the many individuals who take the time to come up with a New Year’s resolution and find yourself defeated after a month or two into the year, then maybe you should consider making a business resolution. One that will really stick!
What is a “business resolution”?
Similar to your New Year’s resolution, a business resolution gives you the chance to shake it up a little and try enhancing your professional life with fresh, new methods. In our new book, Back on Course: Drive Business Performance through Golf, Connie Charles and I talk about the undeniable link between the corporate world and the game. We dig deep into why it is important for companies to engage in golf outings. Most importantly, we discuss how to take advantage of the multitude of benefits the game presents!
Business is all about relationships
An undeniable truth is that folks do business with people they like, trust, admire, and respect. Golf is an important business tool because it presents an opportunity to build lasting relationships that can build partnerships. In one round of golf, you can build a solid relational foundation to leverage into long-lasting business connections that will evolve into lifetime-lasting relationships. The golf course also replicates the business environment showing you how people function when confronted with the inevitable challenges faced during a round of golf by providing insight into their business personality.
In our book, Back on Course, Connie and I talk about how individual skills do not build the foundation of a golf relationship, and if you are not the best golfer, there is no need to feel at a disadvantage. A method for lowering your “business golf handicap” would be learning how to use the game to network, build relationships, and develop an organizational culture based on the tenants of the game such as teamwork, integrity, and perseverance.
We have developed a series of workshops through our resort partner, Enchantment Resort, to teach aspiring business golfers how to hone their skills.
The Strategic Scramble: The ultimate test for high performing teams. This fun, yet challenging, program turns the golf course into an experiential learning opportunity. Leadership, teamwork, strategic critical thinking, and execution take the center stage. Participants will need to transfer the same skills that make them successful at work in this alternative environment.
Drive it Through the Grass Ceiling: Designed specifically for executive women who recognize that the shortest road to the top may be a cart path. This program focuses on easy-to-master golf skills training combined with the fundamentals of business golf etiquette.
The Business Golf Bootcamp: This comprehensive program covers it all. Participants are immersed in a total game makeover. Golf skills are improved from tee to green as part of the camp, while also focusing on the unique skills needed to use the game strategically in your business life, and how to track the ROI.
So maybe the idea of “work hard – play hard” is right on point! And where else would you rather enjoy the golf course than in the beautiful ranges of Sedona, Arizona. See you on the fairway.
